Jason Williams is a proud native of Sherwood and North Little Rock, whose life experiences have fueled his passion for helping others. At the young age of four, he observed the consequences of his brother's difficult birth, marked by significant medical complications. Frequent visits to Arkansas Children’s Hospital due to his brother's seizure disorder profoundly impacted Jason, especially vivid memories of a critical moment when his mother urgently stated, “his lips are blue,” while rushing to the hospital.
These experiences, coupled with the compassion displayed by healthcare professionals, inspired Jason’s commitment to helping vulnerable populations. He witnessed firsthand the intellectual and cognitive challenges his brother faced due to his condition.
In 2008, Jason began his career at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in the burn center, where he encountered the psychological and physical toll of burn injuries on patients. Throughout his career as a registered nurse, he has supported patients in various settings, including PICU, CVICU, NICU, ED, and medical-surgical floors. In 2015, seeking further education, Jason enrolled in Vanderbilt University School of Nursing’s Family Nurse Practitioner program. After graduating, he returned to burn surgery as an APRN, where he noticed many patients struggling with untreated mental health issues.
One particular patient’s plea for help with finding mental health support underscored Jason's realization of his own knowledge gap in this area. Motivated to address the need for mental health care, he enrolled in Vanderbilt’s PMHNP/DNP program. Although his initial intention was to remain in burn care, Jason transitioned to the child and adolescent division within the department of psychiatry. For the past three years, he has diligently cared for patients with depression, anxiety, and trauma, as well as neurodivergent populations, witnessing the complex challenges they and their families face.
Jason is actively involved in his community and is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, serving in leadership roles including Little Rock Sigma Beta Club Advisor and Central Arkansas Area Director. He has also held positions such as Vice President of the local alumni chapter and advisor to the collegiate chapter at Philander Smith University, earning numerous accolades under his leadership. As the past president of the Little Rock Black Nurses Association chapter, Jason is engaged in several professional nursing organizations.
His contributions have been recognized through several awards, including the "40 Under 40 Nurse Leader" by the Arkansas Action Coalition (2015), the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing Catherine Hanley Class of 1912 Rising Star Award (2023), the Chi Eta Phi Sorority Incorporated Nurse Humanitarian Award (2025), and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated Trailblazer Award. Jason cherishes his role as a husband to his college sweetheart, Ashley, and father to their son, Jaxon.
